We are thrilled to announce that Kemi Pavlocak, the founder and beekeeper of SAVAGE BEE-CHES®, has been honored with the San Diego Magazine's Celebrating Women People's Choice award in the Food and Beverage Rising Star category. This recognition comes as a delightful surprise, especially given the strong competition in the category and Kemi's relatively recent arrival to the San Diego metropolitan scene.
For over seven years, Kemi has dedicated herself to beekeeping and the revitalization of the rural desert area of San Diego County. Most of her efforts, under the retail umbrella of O'Shun's Orchard. Through Montezuma Valley Market then Ranchita BODEGA, have been focused on supporting the local and outdoor communities by keeping the only store in a small town open—an endeavor that has been nothing short of challenging.
The decision to wind down operations in Ranchita, CA, and shift focus to expanding SAVAGE BEE-CHES marked a pivotal moment for Kemi and her husband, Mike. While the boutique in Old Town San Diego has brought new energy and growth to the business, it’s the community’s enduring support and recognition of Kemi’s hard work that truly underscored this award. It serves as a testament to the impact that Kemi and Mike have had through their community efforts, even as they made the difficult choice to close the specialty shop in Ranchita.
Kemi’s win reflects not just her dedication to her craft but also the community’s appreciation for her efforts to enhance rural life and contribute positively to the environment. Her victory underscores a poignant message: efforts aimed at bettering the lives of others are never in vain. The support from the community is a powerful reminder that the seeds of goodwill we sow do blossom, and the love and care we invest can yield wonderful surprises, like this prestigious award.
Thank you to everyone who supported Kemi through their votes and ongoing encouragement. This accolade is not just a win for Kemi but a celebration of community, perseverance, and the sweet success that comes from truly caring about the land and its people.
