Planning a team event in San Diego? You could book another dinner where everyone talks to the people they already know. Or you could put beeswax on the table and give your group something to make together.
A candle-making class is easy to picture and easy to say yes to: it’s educational, hands-on, beginner-friendly, and everyone leaves with something they made. At SAVAGE BEE-CHES, we bring a different material, and a beekeeper’s perspective, to the experience. This isn’t a generic candle bar with a bee sticker slapped on it. It starts with the story of beeswax and the bees that make it — honeybees and the native bees of San Diego — and ends with a candle in a tin or glass vessel that your guests poured themselves.
Our offsite candle-making workshops are designed for groups that want a memorable activity without having to transport everyone to a studio. We travel to your location in San Diego with the supplies and setup for the workshop.
A candle-making workshop with beeswax at its center
Every workshop starts with the story, because once you know where beeswax comes from, you never look at a candle the same way again.
First, the education. We walk your group through what beeswax actually is: how bees make it, why a hive needs it, and why it has that natural golden color and subtle honey aroma. We cover how beeswax candles compare to paraffin, a short history of beeswax candles going back centuries (they were once so valuable they were taxed like luxury goods), and a conversation about bees themselves — honeybees and our native San Diego bees, who they are, and why our local ecosystem depends on them. Our customers leave informed about the ecosystem they live in. That part matters to us.
Then, the hands-on. Each guest makes their own candle in a tin or glass vessel. You choose your scent from our options, place your wick, and pour. Your candle cools with a wick holder in place, and then it’s yours to take home — along with beginner knowledge about bees, beeswax, and candle making that most people have never heard.
The finished candles won’t all look identical. Good. The point is making something by hand, not turning out a row of factory-perfect copies.

A team event that gives people something to do
Some group activities ask everyone to perform. Some ask everyone to compete. A candle-making workshop offers another option: make a little space for people to work, talk, and try something new.
That can be a welcome change of pace for a team retreat, office gathering, client event, or private celebration. There’s a shared activity, but no pressure to be the loudest person in the room or the best at anything. You don’t need to arrive with a craft background. You just need to be willing to get involved.
And there’s a take-home candle at the end, not a disposable conference freebie that disappears into a desk drawer. It’s a small reminder of the time your group spent making something together.
That’s what makes this a strong choice for team building activities in San Diego: it’s social without feeling forced and creative without requiring anyone to already think of themselves as creative.
We bring the workshop to your venue
Our boutique in Old Town San Diego is intentionally intimate, with capacity for up to four guests. That’s lovely for a small session. It is not the right room for a large company gathering, and we’re not going to pretend otherwise.
For larger groups, we travel to you. Host the workshop at your office, event venue, hotel, or another suitable location in San Diego. We bring everything we need — wax, vessels, scents, wicks, the full setup. All we ask for is access to electricity and water.
The format adapts to your group size. For intimate groups, there’s more time and space for hands-on handling — every guest pours their own candle, scent choice and wick placement included. For large gatherings of 50 and up, the format shifts to more of a live demonstration: our staff handles the pouring while your guests watch the process up close, and everyone still leaves with a finished candle of their own. Nobody watches from the back row empty-handed.
Pricing is based on your group size, the format that fits your event, and your venue details — we’ll give you an exact quote once we know what you’re planning. Sessions run about 1.5 hours, though the timing flexes — shorter for a quick team activity, longer for spread-out groups or events that want more time with the beeswax education.
This offsite format makes it possible to book a candle making party or workshop for a team without asking everyone to travel across town or find a studio with the right capacity. Your venue stays yours. We bring the activity.

Why SAVAGE BEE-CHES brings a different perspective
I built SAVAGE BEE-CHES around a simple belief: if we’re going to work with products from the hive, we should help people understand the material, not just sell them the finished thing.
I’m a beekeeper and the founder of San Diego’s only dedicated honey boutique. I’m also a Black, woman, and veteran business owner. Those are not decorative details. They shape how I build this business: with respect for hands-on work, a commitment to doing things with intention, and a belief that the people behind a product matter.
That perspective comes into the workshop. Beeswax isn’t just a craft supply. It’s a hive product with a real origin and a purpose. We introduce the material, help participants work with it, and make room for questions. Your group gets a creative activity and a closer look at what makes beeswax worth working with.
